You've booked an In-home photoshoot?! Yay! (and If not - what's holding you back?) Next I always get two big questions or concerns: 1) My home doesn't feel "photo worthy" and 2) What do we wear? Today, we're going to talk about the latter (but don't worry, number one will get touched on soon, too!) The point of in-home sessions are to feel cozy and at home while documenting these beautiful, real-life moments. So, your outfits should mirror that same vibe and be aesthetically pleasing but also a call to comfort and what you might typically wear on a day at home with your little ones (yes - I even include sweatpants in this post! We'll get Into It) Let’s talk about how to choose clothing that feels good, looks great, and helps create the most beautiful, natural images.

1. Keep It Comfortable & Move-Friendly
From snuggling on the couch to running around the kitchen, or even playing airplane on your living room floor, comfort and movability is key. Think soft, breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, and knits. Flowy dresses, relaxed-fit tops, and cozy sweaters work beautifully. If you want to opt for denim (which I love) go for a more straight or loose-fit like wide leg or mom jeans. Avoid anything too tight or structured—it’s hard to soak in the moment when you’re adjusting your outfit every five minutes!
2. Pick Colors That Fit Your Home & Vibe
Since these photos will live on your walls (and your home is also the background of these photos), choose colors that complement your decor and personal style. Neutrals, earth tones, and soft pastels always photograph beautifully. I typically suggest steering clear or super bright or neon colors because they can reflect up onto your skin or surroundings and end up skewing the colors of the reality that we are working to capture.
3. Lighter Colors are an In-Home Photo go-to
When In doubt, lighter colors are always a great go-to. Soft creams, ivories, white, light grays, pale blues, and muted tones help bounce natural light around, giving your photos a dreamy, glowing feel. Dark colors, on the other hand, can absorb light and make your images feel moodier. If you love deeper tones, go for warm, rich shades like forest green, rust, or deep mustard for a cozy, inviting look.
4. Textures Make a Difference
The little details matter! Textured fabrics—like knits, gauze, linen, or subtle patterns—add depth and interest to your photos without being distracting. And again, making sure to use fabrics that allow for movement and flexibility Is always Important. Another tip Is to make sure you are mixing textures among family members - unless you desire the matching look (which tbh Is making a bit of a comeback and I'm kind of here for It!)

5. Wear What Feels Like You
At the end of the day, the best outfit is the one that makes you feel amazing. The most meaningful photos aren’t about perfect styling—they’re about the real, beautiful moments between you and your babies. Whether that’s your favorite cozy sweater or a dress you love to twirl in, go with what makes you feel good.

The dresses are the perfect option if you have a cute backyard or front porch where the kids can play on the steps or in the yard while you stand by and look so classic and put together; then an easy swap to some jeans and a simple tee (or even my personal favorite - matching sweatsuits for the fam?!) for a high-end look paired with a cozy, down to earth feel.
